2021 PRAYER CHALLENGE
As we start our year together, we want to challenge you to pray — for our community, our city and our world. And we want to give you two simple prayer goals for 2021. You can write them down. Stick them in your Bible, on your fridge; wherever you’re going to see them..
Maybe you need to make a reminder on your phone that pops up every week. We want to make these prayers a priority, because we believe these prayers line up with God’s will for our church. We believe these prayers are foundational prayers. Prayers that He will hear and respond to.
We hope you’ll accept this challenge. We hope you’ll make it a priority to pray these foundational prayers — for unity and leaders. And if you do, we can’t wait to see where God will take us.
“So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
If we want to change the world, we have to start at home. We have to start with ourselves. We need to break down any barriers that are holding us back from being a light in this world.
That’s the destination. Becoming a church that represents who Jesus is, starts with prayers for who we are and how we act. If we want to see people coming to Jesus, we’ve got to live it out. We’ve got to show them what life with Him looks like. We’ve got to trust God to create unity in our church.
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.”
1 Peter 4:10
If we want to change the world, we need people who are willing to step up. We need people operating in their gifts. And, we're not just talking about pastors. The Church (capital “C”) is a body and every one of us has something to contribute. If we want to see people coming to Jesus, we need to pray for leaders. And not just any leaders, “servant leaders.” People who are willing to follow Jesus with their whole lives.
We’ve got to ask God to create leaders in our church. And, to be ready when we find out we’re one of them.
